How to create the perfect blow-dry at home.
Salon blow-dried hair… It’s the best and we want to ensure you get the same salon results at home when styling your hair. We have come up with 6 foolproof steps to create that sleek and shiny style that hair dreams are made of.
- Shampoo & Conditioner. I know you’re probably bored of me writing about the importance of a great shampoo and conditioner, but it really does get you well on your way to gorgeous hair! Follow up with a weekly deep conditioning treatment for extra shiny locks.
- Use a wet brush to comb through knots. A wet brush glides through even the knottiest of hair, which will ensure the least amount of damage is caused. (healthy hair = easy to style)
- Towel dry. You don’t want to be working with sobbing wet hair, for one your arms will thank you for taking some of the damp out first, and secondly, your hair will too! Less overall heat applied is a good way of ensuring you aren’t overdoing it and causing unnecessary damage.
- Products. This is where a tailored hair care plan is important, if you have lank and fine hair a root boosting spray and a blow-dry lotion designed to add volume will make the world of difference to the result. If you are tackling dry and frizzy hair, smoothing lotions (Olaplex number 6 is the holy grail of products) and serums will be your best friend. Always use products that counteract the “problem” you’re working with/against. A good heat protector should always be used, no matter what hair type or style you are going for.
- Choose your weapon (more commonly known as a hairbrush). Think about the style you are going for, big bouncy blowdry? Using a larger round brush will create volume.
- The key to a great blow-dry is the angle at which you hold the dryer, remember you want to be smoothing the cuticle down as well as lifting the root. A good trick is to work on the roots first, blowdry them up and then work through the mid-lengths and ends of the hair, ensuring you are directing the nozzle at a 45-degree angle as you slide down the hair. This will create a super smooth and bouncy finish.
If you’re new to creating a salon-worthy blowdry at home, at first you may feel all fingers, no thumbs. But practice! You will get there and soon you’ll be blowdrying in half the time.
