Are regular hair cuts necessary?
Whether you are growing your hair long or have a shorter style, regular hair cuts are important. Hair cuts can maintain your hair and protect against damage. Here at Teddy Grace hair and beauty salon, we are all about healthy hair!
Won’t regular cuts stop my hair from growing? Our hair grows at a rate of about half an inch a month, having a micro trim (A minimal amount is cut off the ends- micro trims take off any split or damaged ends without taking an unnecessary amount of length) to maintain your style will ensure that your growing hair will stay as healthy as possible. After all, what’s the point of having long locks if the ends are fried and damaged?
Damage- Our hair gets damaged through heat, chemicals, and the environment. Even when using heat protectors such as Joico defy damage (pick one up in salon) regular trims are still necessary. A heat protector will protect against damage, but you can’t rely solely on them, it’s the same with deep conditioning treatments, they’re a fantastic way to protect and maintain but they won’t repair already damaged hair. Getting regular trims to remove split ends will ensure your hair stays healthy and are perfect when paired with the right hair products. (Ask in the salon and we will help you choose the best products for you)
How often should I get my hair cut? A cut every 6-8 weeks will keep your hair looking its best, some clients with shorter styles prefer to come more regularly. We recommend booking your hair appointments at the end of each visit. After all, it’s easy to let it slip our mind to make an appointment, and often people only remember when their hair is damaged. See hair cuts as maintenance rather than damage control.
Maintain style- Cuts such as pixies or bobs will start to lose their shape within 4-5 weeks as they grow out. Having regular cuts will keep your style in place and ensure your hair is always looking its best.
Thicker hair- It’s an illusion! People with finer hair will notice that regular trims help their hair to look thicker than it is, this is because when hair isn’t cut regularly the ends start to break. When we remove those wispy ends, it gives the illusion of fuller and thicker ends. Winner!
Other ways to keep your hair healthy- As mentioned previously, Joico Defy damage will protect against heat, harmful UV rays, and environmental damage. Paired with a good deep conditioning treatment such as a Joico K-pack intense hydrator, will inject moisture and life into your hair. Deep conditioning treatments work by closing the cuticle to leave the hair shaft able to better reflect light, leaving you with shiny locks!
